We are calling this the year of the reckoning. It is now more than ever that we need to work extra hard, it is now that we need to leverage people’s voices, it is now that we need to continue educating ourselves and not let this momentum subside. By donating a small amount of $25, $40 or $50 or whatever you can afford, you can help fund the next decade of anti-racism education in Australia that aims to not just acknowledge but challenge systemic racism present in Australian institutions, media houses, and the wider public life. 

​​​​​​In a survey conducted by All Together Now on anti-racism education gaps in Australia, 60-70% of respondents identified as anti-racists but did not know how to have constructive conversations about racism. They wanted to do more but did not know how to extend their intentions on to public and community life to bring about meaningful impact. The respondents expressed a desire to be able to understand one another better and go beyond the colour of their skin. 

In 2020, one of the negative impacts of COVID-19 is the rise in anti-Asian racism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and other forms of hate. Coupled with hateful conspiracy theories, misinformation and inflammatory material being furiously spread across social media, more Australians are witnessing and experiencing racist and hateful behaviour.

With physical distancing, an economic downturn and rise in unemployment, it’s easy for Australians to feel alone, isolated and anxious. Generally, right-wing extremists in Australia use social media platforms to recruit people in these positions. They build a sense of community by focusing on anti-democratic, xenophobic, racist, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, and ableist values and activities.

We ask for you to not just support us in preventing the harm caused to adults and young people and minimising the threat of right-wing extremism, but to extend substantial support that sustains the next decade of anti-racism education in Australia. A financial aid that can see the economy recover equitably, health restored in unity and justice prevail multi-culturally.

This year has been particularly hard for us as it has been for many others. We stand at the cusp of big change. World events have led us to believe so. Race relations are about to take on a speed never seen before. The US is setting a strong precedent that we must be steadfast on the path of racial justice.
